Rail service in Western Washington was hit by a 2 hour 20 minute walkout this afternoon by some 100 Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway Co. dispatchers working out of Fort Worth, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas.

About 50 percent of Northwest railway traffic — Amtrak, the Sound Transit commuter service and freight trains — were affected, Melonas said.

“Hopefully by morning we’ll have normal traffic,” said Melonas.

The Texas dispatchers, who control Northwest rail traffic, walked out at 2 p.m. Pacific time.

Melonas said managers were able to continue limited operations.
