Heads up: Ready or not, here comes another quarter-point interest-rate increase. At least that’s what the experts expect when the Fed meets Tuesday. There is plenty of other big economic news expected out this week, too, starting with Monday’s release of the federal budget figures for November. Retail-sales figures for November and business inventories for October are out Tuesday. Coming out Wednesday are figures on international trade and Thursday brings us the consumer price index for November and industrial production figures for November.

Tuesday: Is the local job market still improving? We’ll find out when the state releases the latest monthly unemployment figures. The October jobless rate was 5.6 percent statewide, 4.7 percent in King County and 4.9 percent in Snohomish County. … News of the most-valuable airplane order of the year is expected from Australia. Qantas will make a final decision on the major parts of a $16 billion order for as many as 90 wide-body jets, choosing between Boeing’s 787, 777 and the passenger version of the new 747-8 jumbo on one side and Airbus’ A350, A340 and A380 on the other. The decision was postponed from a week earlier, to allow Boeing and Airbus to wheel and deal with further discounts. The extra wait set local nerves on edge, because Boeing had seemed to be favored.
