T-Mobile US is putting its network to the test by allowing people to see if a phone works for them and their situations.

At its Uncarrier 5.0 event Wednesday evening at the Paramount in Seattle, the Bellevue company said it is letting potential customers test drive T-Mobile’s unlimited nationwide service with an iPhone 5s for a week — “no strings attached.”

“The way this industry forces Americans to buy wireless is completely, utterly broken,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a statement. “While the carriers ask you to buy blind, the Un-carrier gives you transparency.”

Starting Monday, people will be able to sign up for T-Mobile Test Drive and a few days later, they’ll receive a ready-to-go iPhone 5s. After the seven-day test, the user just has to drop the phone off at any T-Mobile store — “absolutely no money down. No obligation. No strings attached,” the company said in a release.

During the first year of the program, T-Mobile expects at least 1 million people to take a test drive.

T-Mobile, in what it calls Uncarrier 6.0, also announced a partnership with Seattle-based Rhapsody, putting what the company calls an “un-carrier spin” on Internet radio.

The two companies are introducing unRadio, a new ad-free music service that lets users choose the music and replay favorites any time — all from a catalog of more than 20 million songs. The unRadio service will be available at no extra cost starting Monday to T-Mobile customers with unlimited 4G LTE service, or $4 a month for its other customers.

To go one step further, T-Mobile’s Simple Choice customers will also be able to stream all the music they want from the most popular streaming services, including Pandora, Rhapsody, iHeartRadio, iTunes Radio, Slacker and Spotify, without incurring data charges.

Music services from T-Mobile partners — Samsung’s Milk Music and the forthcoming Beatport music app from SFX — will also stream without data charges for T-Mobile customers, according the release.
