China Southern Airlines signed a deal today to buy 10 Boeing 787 aircraft for about $1.2 billion, according to Reuters and Dow Jones wire services based on state television reports.

China Central Television did not give further details of the deal, signed in Guangzhou.

China Southern, the country’s largest carrier by fleet size, has already purchased three 787 planes as part of a larger deal involving four airlines and a total of 42 787s.

The deal comes less than a week before Chinese President Hu Jintao pays a visit to Boeing’s plant in Everett on Labor Day.
