Expedia has signed a lease for about 38,000 square feet at 645 Elliott Ave. W. near its future corporate campus in Seattle, and it plans to move in there this summer, the company said Friday.

The lease, which runs through the end of 2019, is the Bellevue-based travel company’s first leased space in Seattle and is one of several experiments in preparation for moving its headquarters to the former Amgen campus in 2019.

“We’re a test and learn culture at our very core,” said Sarah Gavin, head of communications for Expedia, in a statement. The company wants “to understand how our employees and our broader community will experience our new headquarters.”

Gavin said Expedia is working out how many employees will move to the office space, which can accommodate up to 300 people.
