That space underneath your stairs is part of the square footage of your home, so why not use it for something?
Despite the triangular shape, it is actually a very usable space. Here are a few ideas for making the best use of this awkward area.
Build a wall with drawers. The drawers can be made to pull out vertically or horizontally, depending on what you’re trying to store. Or make a closet for extra hanging space.
Create open shelving. People are always looking for more places to put all the books they’ve collected over the years. Shelves can also be used to display knickknacks or a favorite collection.

Make a little office with a tucked-in desk. If the wall space is long enough, two work areas can be created by placing a small wall in the middle and a desk on each side. If possible, the wall can have openings for books and other supplies.
Add a daybed. A daybed can serve as extra seating during the day, with the added bonus of a sleep space when needed.
Create a wine cellar. OK, you probably won’t be able to control the temperature of the bottles, so let’s call it a wine storage area. Create diamond-shaped cubbies under the stairs, and you’ll have a place to store and display your wine collection.
Place a TV on a stand or in a built-in unit. A viewing area can be created by placing chairs across from the TV. This works especially well in small homes or apartments, where space is limited and every inch counts.
