Communications company CenturyLink said Tuesday it will close its160-employee business customer care call center in Seattle in September.

Company spokeswoman Meg Andrews said the work done in the Seattle center will be shifted to other CenturyLink call centers and affected employees may follow their work to Bismarck, N.D. or Minneapolis, Minn. A severance package will be available to others, Andrews said

The employees are represented by the Communication Workers of America union, and a local union representative said the union was not aware of the closure until today’s announcement. There are only 44 openings in Bismarck and only two in Minneapolis, the representative said.

CenturyLink still operates three large data centers and is opening its cloud development center in the Seattle Area in October.
