Boeing said Tuesday that it has firmed up the configuration of its forthcoming new single-aisle derivative, the 737-MAX.
Engineers have finalized the major changes from the current 737NG models — including new fuel-efficient engines, new split winglets, and redesigns to the nose landing gear and the tail cone — and will now begin the detailed design phase.
Keith Leverkuhn, 737 MAX program manager, said the new jet will also feature improved connectivity, allowing easier downloads of maintenance and performance data for mechanics and more wireless access for passengers
Final assembly of the 737 MAX 8 is scheduled to begin in 2015 and first delivery to an airline in the fall of 2017.
