The smallest version of the Airbus A350 suffered another blow Tuesday as Hawaiian Airlines dropped its order for six A350-800s and said it instead planned to buy six of the just-announced A330-800neo.

Customers previously canceled 12 orders for the slow-selling A350-800 this year, and speculation is widespread that Airbus will drop the model’s development to focus on the more popular -900 and -1000 versions of its large widebody. As of June the A350-800 had just 34 orders, according to the Airbus website.

Hawaiian noted that its “overall capital commitments will decrease in absolute terms and will be pushed further into the future.” Its memorandum of understanding with Airbus also gives it purchase rights for another six aircraft, for a total list price of $2.9 billion.
